Helping Hands at Christmas

We have just completed our Adopt-a-Family for Thanksgiving project and had a very nice and generous collection. Thank you to all who gave to help the needy at this time. We are now announcing the same program for Christmas, and have only a few weeks to get the project completed.

Donations can be made of the requested items or money donations to purchase the items, buy gift cards for the needy, and a donation to be given to the sisters to do their work at St. Agatha’s. They can be brought to the Council meeting on Nov. 22.

We will meet at the home of John Wood (14647 Fairfield Farm Drive) to take the items to St. Agatha’s on Tuesday, Nov. 29, to leave at 2 p.m.  All are welcome to help with the delivery.

The requested items are:

· Women’s clothing

· Men’s clothing

· Women’s and men’s underwear

· Toys

· Household goods

· Gifts for pre-teens and teens

· Gift cards

· Gloves

Program Helps New Moms

By Deputy Grand Knight Tim Lewis

As members of Knights of Columbus we have a long history of supporting Life. Our Supreme Knight, Patrick Kelly, recently said that “One of the most important tasks God has given us at this moment is to advance the cause of life.”  Since 2009, the Knights have purchased over 163 Ultrasound machines valued over $75 million, and we will now embark on our latest mission and programs in this area, titled ASAP.

ASAP (Assistance and Support After Pregnancy) will focus our support and resources targeted to raise funds for Maternity Homes and Pregnancy Support Centers. Brief details follow:

Assistance and Support After Pregnancy describes the Knights of Columbus’ efforts to support pregnant women, mothers and their new children by serving pregnancy resource centers and maternity homes. These pro-life, non-profits are lifelines to women and babies in need and offer essential services that make the difference between a baby being aborted and a baby being born in a supportive environment. Pregnancy resource centers provide assistance to nearly 2 million clients each year. In 2021, Knights donated $4.6 million and 469,000 volunteer hours to support these centers and the women and children they serve through cash donations and community service activities such as baby and maternity item drives. These life-saving organizations would not be able to provide the level of assistance women and children need without support from our Order and collaborating parish communities. Through the ASAP initiative, councils can now contribute even more support. For every $500 a council donates to a qualifying pregnancy resource center or maternity home (up to $2,000), the Supreme Council will donate $100 more. Visit kofc.org/asap for resources.
